New reporting due dates for Federal W-2 and 1099-MISC forms

The first effort of the Internal Revenue Service in combating fraudulent tax returns and other abuses has resulted in a new filing deadline for Federal Wage and Income Statements (Form W-2) and Federal Miscellaneous Income (Form 1099-MISC) when reporting Non-employee compensation.

The new due date will be January 31, 2017 for tax year 2016 and, the 31st of every January every subsequent year.

Extensions may be filed by using Federal Form 8809, Application for Extension of Time to File Information Returns. The extension of time to file the returns is one month, if granted by the Internal Revenue Service.
